October 22, 2023 3:18 PM |

The depression over West Central Bay of Bengal has moved at a speed of 6 kmph during the last 6 hours and lay centered at 0530 hours IST today, October 22nd, over West Central Bay of Bengal near latitude 14.9 degree north and longitude 86.1. It was about 600 km south of Paradip (Odisha), 760 km south of Digha West Bengal), and 900 km southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh).

It is expected to intensify further into a deep depression by the evening or night of October 22nd. Initially, it will move in the Northwest direction towards the north Andhra Pradesh coast. Thereafter, it may re-curve north-northeastward, towards Gangetic West Bengal and Bangladesh coast.

Wind speed may increase gradually. Sea conditions will remain rough over north Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coast during the next 24 hours. Wind speed may be 40 to 50 kmph gusting up to 60 kmph. Wind speed will increase over Gangetic West Bengal and Bangladesh coast from October 23rd and will continue until October 25th.

Light rain may commence over Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal by the evening of October 22nd. There are chances of moderate to heavy rain over the North coast of Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and Bangladesh on October 23rd and 24th.

We do not expect the system to cross the Indian coast and will keep a safe distance from the Coast of Odisha and West Bengal. There is a slight chance that the system may become a Cyclone, but we will keep a watch over the weather system and keep updating.
