Different shades of Monsoon in Peninsular India

August 9, 2016 3:15 PM |

Monsoon in indiaThe Peninsular India has not witnessed any significant weather system affecting the region for the last many days.

Only the off-shore trough has been prevailing along the West Coast, particularly from South Coastal Gujarat to coastal parts of Karnataka. Thus, Konkan & Goa and Coastal Karnataka have been receiving good rains. However, Kerala has been receiving light rains only.

Occasional light rains have been witnessed in Tamil Nadu, interiors of Karnataka and Telangana.

During last 24 hours, Karnataka received scattered good rains. Agumbe recorded 62.4 mm, Honavar received 3 mm, Madikeri 6.6 mm and Mangalore 6 mm of rainfall. Mahabaleshwar in Konkan region witnessed 117 mm of rainfall in a span of 24 hours.

In Kerala, Alappuzha received 18.6 mm of rainfall, Kochi received 10.8 mm and Kozhikode received 9.8 mm.

Skymet Weather had predicted that Tamil Nadu and interiors of Karnataka will be rain deficient at the end of the four-month-long Monsoon system. Thus, we do not expect very good showers over these areas any time soon.

However, Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra Pradesh may start receiving good rains sooner or later. In the long term, these regions will receive normal Monsoon rains.

So far, Peninsular India as a whole has received normal rains.
