The northwest India and central parts of the country will witness contrasting temperature profiles over the remaining days of this week. Temperatures are likely to drop by 3°-4°C over the northern plains over the next 3-4 days. Contrastingly, the mercury is expected to rise over the central parts during this period. Most parts of Maharashtra, including the coastline and large parts of interior Gujarat, will witness a rise in temperature by 2°-3°C. Conditions are likely to stabilize around the start of the next week.

Western disturbance is moving across the mountains of North India. Weather activity will start receding from tomorrow onwards. The rear section of the disturbance is generally packed with cold air. These winds will blow down the slopes into the plains of Punjab, Haryana, North Rajasthan, Delhi, and West Uttar Pradesh. They might even reach parts of Madhya Pradesh. Consequently, the temperatures are likely to drop in these parts.

An east-west ridge is aligned more or less along 20°North over the central parts. It is running across parts of Gujarat, Maharashtra and thence eastward. This feature will restrict the reach of colder winds from northern parts. On the other hand, this pattern will result in the sinking of air in the lower levels and trigger the rise of mercury over the central parts. Both states will observe a rise in temperature by 2°-3°C in the next 2-3 days. Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Baroda, Nagpur, Parbhani, Akola and Sholapur will witness a rise in mercury levels. Even the coastal city of Mumbai is expected to witness a rise in temperature, taking mercury levels to 36°-37°C, during this period.
