West Rajasthan and North Rajasthan are likely to have thunderstorm/ dust storm activity over the next two days. The activity may not be strong, but you could find gusty winds and light rain in some places. Parts of East Rajasthan received rain in a few places in the past 24 hours. Churu and Pilani recorded very light rainfall, yesterday evening. A similar kind of weather is expected over West and North Rajasthan, today and tomorrow, more so in the border areas.
Western disturbance is moving across northern mountains. Another system is approaching the Western Himalayas, tomorrow. Also, there is weak cyclonic circulation over West Rajasthan and an east-west trough extending towards the Delhi region. Under the combined influence of these systems, convective clouds may build up over the area, causing pre-monsoon activity. Even, a strong westerly jet stream, an east-west oriented, zone of high-speed westerly winds over 200 km/h is running across central and southern parts of the state, in the upper levels of the atmosphere. This feature helps in triggering the thunderstorm activity, in conjunction with the rising temperatures, over the region.
Border areas will be more vulnerable to thunderstorm activity. Locations like Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bikaner, Phalodi, Jodhpur, Ratangarh, Anupgarh, Khajuwala, and Nokha will have the risk of dust and thunderstorms. Most of this activity will happen in the late afternoon/ evening or early night hours. Southern and Southwestern parts of the state will possibly skip this round. Next weekend, between 12th and 14th April, the state will see much more action. Spread and intensity will rise manifold and the state will observe, the first typical pre-monsoon lash of thunderstorms and dust storms.
