Early summer for Delhi, relief in sight

January 4th onwards, Delhi witnessed severe winter conditions as temperature dropped significantly. This cold wave spell lasted until January 9. Thereafter, again between January 15 and 18, temperatures were significantly below normal. Delhi has witnessed one of the longest cold wave spells during January 2023.

Temperature started rising suddenly in the month of February and February 2023 ended with highest average maximum temperature across the country in the last 122 years. Maximum temperature crossed 30 degrees on February 20 and on February 21st maximum temperature was 33.6 which is the highest temperature until now in 2023. The mild winter of spring season remained almost absent. Maximum temperatures remained significantly above normal in the March also. The temperatures may increase further during next 3 to 4 days.

There is relief in sight as pre monsoon rain and thunder showers may commence over many parts of the country in coming days. There may be isolated thundery activities on March 14 over parts of Delhi and NCR. Rain is expected to commence over Delhi and adjoining areas March 17 or 18 onwards. This on and off rain and thunder shower activities, although patchy in nature may continue for 3 to 4 days leading to significant relief from warm weather condition.
