East India to receive good rain until the end of August

August 20, 2023 3:48 PM |

East and Northeast India are the most rain-deficient areas in the country. Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal are rain deficient whereas Odisha is in the lower side of the normal rain category with a deficiency of 7%. The eastern end of the axis of the monsoon trough is passing through Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal.

Rain activities have reduced over Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and East Uttar Pradesh for the last few days. The low-pressure area which is over Northeast Madhya Pradesh will move up to central parts of North Madhya Pradesh and then recover towards Uttar Pradesh. This low-pressure area will once again pull back the Western end of the monsoon trough to the North. Monsoon will become active once again over East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar Jharkhand, and West Bengal soon.

The eastern end of the monsoon trough is expected to remain over Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Therefore, we expect on-and-off rain to continue over East India until the end of August. The parched eastern states will have some relief due to this upcoming rain. Rain is now essential for the revival of dying crops. We think that the weather in East India will become somewhat comfortable and there will be significant relief from ongoing hot and sultry weather conditions.
