Fog in Delhi, North India to get better

January 7, 2014 2:01 PM |

The dense fog condition in North India is expected to get better in the next two to three days. Change in the wind condition will bring reprieve from the foggy weather as the low minimum temperatures, conducive for the intensification of fog in Delhi and North India will rise.

This means that the northerly winds in North India would cease to prevail in the region for the next two days under the influence of a fresh Western Disturbance. The average minimum temperature in North India in the last one week has been maintaining around 6°C.

Fog in Delhi has almost been clear today, with some pockets like Palam, Dwarka and Vikaspuri observing shallow fog. The visibility at the Palam airport was about 400 meters in the early morning hours due to which there were no major flight delays or cancellations as witnessed yesterday.

Fog in Delhi was thickest in last five years on Sunday and Monday morning that hit air, road and rail traffic hard. On Sunday night, fog at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport led to suspension of flight operations for about three hours and affected the schedule of over 600 flights.

Meanwhile, fog will continue to remain dense to very dense in some parts of Central and East India, over central and east Uttar Pradesh and Bihar due to the presence of high moisture levels in the atmosphere. The cyclonic circulation over east Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas of south Uttar Pradesh and Bihar has lead to the moisture levels increasing in the region.
