Fog situation in Delhi, North India improves

February 3, 2014 8:24 AM |

The situation of fog in Delhi was better today except in pockets like Palam, Vikaspuri and Faridabad where it was dense. Visibility during early morning hours in these places was reported to be around 150 meters. The remaining parts of the capital observed shallow fog with visibility of around 300 meters. The improved situation was a big relief for the people especially office goers who have been battling foggy conditions for some time.

However, at around 7.30 am fog at Palam became very dense and general visibility dropped below 50 meters leading to about 9 flights being delayed and 3 being cancelled. The runway visibility also dropped from 500 meters at 7 am to 50 meters at 7.30 am. The minimum temperature in the capital also observed a marginal drop and recorded at around 7 degrees Celsius early morning today.

The situation of fog in North India was also good today with only Allahabad, Lucknow and Varanasi observing dense fog.  Chandigarh, Amritsar and Jammu observed very clear weather with visibility of over a kilometre.  Patna in Bihar and Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh that have often been on the receiving end also saw some improvement and reported shallow fog.
