Kerala is the only state in the country till now which has shown excess rainfall. At present, it is surplus by 24%. The state was rain surplus by 32% in the third week of August due to extremely heavy rains which led to widespread flooding along with a large loss to life and property.

However, the weather of Kerala became almost dry since August 19 and the rain surplus dropped from 42% to 24%. Now, the rains have once again revived over South Peninsula over Kerala and Tamil Nadu, therefore we expect scattered rains to continue over Kerala for at least next three-four days. Skymet however does not expect much increase in the rain surplus, as heavy to very heavy rains are not going to make a comeback for now.

Presently, a cyclonic circulation is persisting over South Interior Karnataka and a trough is extending up to South Tamil Nadu. Interior Tamil Nadu has been receiving good rains since last few days and we expect light to moderate rains with isolated heavy spells to continue over the area, for the next two-three days. Therefore, the state of Tamil Nadu which is rain deficient by 12%, may improve a bit. But coastal districts of Tamil Nadu are expected to remain almost dry.

Rain intensity will reduce over both the states after three- four days.
