Rain in Gujarat

Since last many days, a Cyclonic circulation has been persisting over Gujarat, due to this, humid winds from Arabian Sea are increasing moisture. Moreover, a wind sheer zone is extending from South Gujarat to Odisha and an off shore trough is also extending from South Gujarat to Kerala.

Moderate to heavy rains have occurred over many parts of Gujarat. In fact, in the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Rajkot witnessed 66 mm of rains, Kandla 65 mm, Ahmedabad 46 mm, Okha 45 mm, Veraval 39 mm, Porbandar 21 mm, and Vallabh Bhai Vidyanagar 16 mm.

As on September, Gujarat is surplus by 18 percent. Saurashtra and Kutch are excess by 27 percent. This system is expected to persist over Gujarat region and the wind shear zone will persist in the same place.

We expect, good rains to continue over Gujarat until September 9. During this time, many districts of Gujarat will observe moderate to heavy rains.

The intensity of rains will be more initially over South Gujarat. Thereafter, fairly widespread rains are expected. However, Bhuj, Naliya, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha. Mehsana, and Patan may see comparatively lesser rains.

Surat, Valsad, Vadodara, Rajkot, Porbandar, Veraval, Amreli may see moderate to heavy rainfall.

Ahmedabad which has already seen heavy rains in last 24 hours, on and off rains will continue of moderate showers with short intense spells are possible. The state of Gujarat thus, will end on a surplus note, making it one of the best Monsoon seasons so far.
