Hat Trick Of 40 Degrees For Delhi, Cooling Showers Likely Soon

April 19, 2023 11:00 AM |

Parts of Delhi have been reeling under heat wave conditions for the last 3 days. Pitampura, Ridge, Pusa and Najafgarh have recorded day temperatures in excess of 40 degrees and about 5 degrees above the normal levels amounting to heatwave conditions for the 2nd consecutive day. The base observatory at Safdarjung recorded 40.6 degree, the highest of this year so far and 4 degrees above normal. Airport observatory at Palam and Meteorological office at Lodhi Rodhi  replicated a similar grade.

An active western disturbance is moving across the northern mountains. An induced cyclonic circulation is placed over Rajasthan and Punjab. Under the combined influence of these two systems, rain and thundershowers are likely over northern plains covering Punjab, Haryana, parts of Rajasthan and Delhi.

Weather activity is likely to reach Delhi towards late night or wee hours of tomorrow.  Decent showers accompanied with lightning and thunder are expected between 19th and 21st of April. Eastward progression of the remnant systems may give some stray showers even for the subsequent 2 days.

Day temperature is likely to reach 40 degrees today as well, stretching across suburbs of national capital. Partly cloudy sky is likely to prevail for the next 3-4 days with short breaks in between. Thunderstorm and gusty winds will be more probable during evening and night hours.

Mercury levels are expected to dip by 3-5 degrees across the region from tomorrow onwards. Heatwave conditions will abate till the weekend.  A sharp rise in the day temperatures is expected from 25th April and later.
