Heat Wave Conditions Likely Over South And Central Parts

April 2, 2024 6:06 PM |

Hot and dry weather conditions are prevailing over the central and southern parts of the country. No significant weather system will trigger any pre-monsoon activity for the next four days. Temperatures in excess of 40°C have been recorded at Malegaon, Sholapur, Akola, Parbhani, Chandrapur, Brahmapuri, Amravati, Wardha, Nagpur, Osmanabad and Beed. Parts of Andhra Pradesh, North Interior Karnataka, and Telangana also exceeded 40°C. Adilabad, Ramgundam, Nizamabad, Gulbarga, Kurnool, Anantapur, Nandyal, Cuddappah exceeded 40°C. Kurnool recorded the highest temperature of 42.2°C in the country. Even eastern parts of the country covering West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh have recorded temperatures in excess of 40°C. Midnapore, Bankura, Baripada, Jamshedpur, and Rajnandgaon breached the 40°C mark, yesterday.

No weather activity is expected over these parts for the next 3-4 days. There is a north-south trough over Peninsular India from Tamil Nadu to East Madhya Pradesh, across North Karnataka and Vidarbha. This remains inactive, so far. Scattered weather activity may start over Maharashtra, Telangana, North Karnataka, and neighboring regions from 06th April onward. Visible activity over these parts is likely between 07th and 10th April. The soaring temperatures may take a break, following this wet spell. However, no respite from the heat is likely for the next 3-4 days, between 02nd and 06th April. Mercury will cross 42°C at a few places, coming very close to heatwave conditions over some parts. Parts of East Madhya Pradesh will also become vulnerable to extreme heat over the next few days.

Northern parts of the country will continue to skip the extreme heat for this week. A chain of western disturbances, embedded with some small-scale circulations will keep the weather activity going over mountains and foothills. This will shield most parts from the sweltering heat. North Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh and Delhi will escape the soaring heat and the mercury is expected to remain confined to mid-thirties.
