For the past 2 to 3 days, most parts of India have been reeling under severe heatwave conditions.
Scorching heat has now even covered many areas of North and East India. So much so that maximum in the national capital has also crossed the 40-degree mark.
Presently, heatwave is prevailing over parts of Maharashtra, Telangana, East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi-NCR.
A few areas in Interior Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Southwest Uttar Pradesh have also been observing severe heatwave conditions.
Most stations in the areas mentioned above have been recording temperatures above 40 degree Celsius. For instance, Akola has recorded its maximum at 43.8°C, Nizamabad 43.6°C, Delhi 43°C, Gwalior 43.1°C, Jamshedpur 42°C, Jhansi 43.2°C, Nowgong 43.5°C, Kota 42.8°C, and Ujjain 42°C.
Most parts of Peninsular India including Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka will continue to reel under heat wave conditions. This situation is likely to prevail for the next few days as no weather system is affecting the region as of now.
However, Northwest India is liable to witness a marginal drop in maximums. During the next 48 hours, heatwave conditions are likely to abate from Delhi-NCR and Rajasthan due to change in wind direction. The northwesterly flow of winds will restore bringing in some relief from the current weather conditions.
Similarly, a wind discontinuity persists from Marathwada to Comorin across Karnataka. This system is expected to give scattered light rain over North Madhya Maharashtra adjoining Southwest Madhya Pradesh. Thus, marginal relief is also expected over these areas.
However, the relief over these regions will be short lived. Temperatures are likely to witness a rise after 3 to 4 days. Significant relief from hot weather conditions is highly unlikely in the coming days.
