Weather in MumbaiAs predicted Skymet Weather, heatwave engulfed Mumbai on Sunday as mercury soared to 41°C. It was the hottest day since 2011 when mercury had reached 41.3°C on March 17.

The day maximum was eight degrees above the normal average of 33.2°C. If this was not enough, weathermen are afraid that no relief is likely during the next 24 hours as well. Day maximums may rise further on Monday, according to Mahesh Palawat, Vice President- Meteorology and Climate Change, Skymet Weather. If this happens, Mumbai may break the all-time high record of 41.7°C recorded March 28, 1956.

At present, Mumbaikars are battling extremely uncomfortable conditions. Being a coastal station, the feel affect is far too more on account of high humidity levels.

As per weathermen, hot easterly winds blowing from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are primarily responsibly for this steep rise in the day temperatures. All these are areas including Vidarbha and Marathwada are also ready recording high day maximums nearing 40-degree mark.

Relief may come by Tuesday as we are expecting a change in wind pattern. Hot easterly winds would be replaced by comparatively cooler northerly winds. This would lead to drop in temperatures substantially. However, the drop would be a gradual one.

Thus, Mumbai must gear up from some hot days ahead. People must keep themselves hydrated as threat of heatstroke looms large.
