October 24, 2021 1:43 PM |

The first strong Western disturbance of the season has given fairly widespread rain and snowfall over hilly States of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and parts of Himachal Pradesh. Many parts of Jammu and Kashmir such as Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Shopian, Gurez and Ladakh's Zozila pass, Drass and Zanskar received moderate snowfall with isolated heavy spells.

Jammu Srinagar Highway is also blocked due to snowfall. Three people lost their lives due to rain related landslide and mudslides. Jammu region also received moderate to heavy rain. Rain and hailstorm occurred over mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, Katra and nearby areas.

The Western disturbance is now moving away in easterly direction. Rain and snow activities will now reduce over Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh. However scattered rain and snow may continue over J&K, Himachal Pradesh, and isolated pockets of Uttarakhand during next 24 hours. Induced cyclonic circulation has given moderate rain and hailstorm over North West Rajasthan and light to moderate rain over parts of Punjab and Haryana.

After the passage of Western disturbance, Northerly and northwesterly cold and dry winds will blow across Northwest India leading to significant drop in in minimum temperatures.
