
Unexpected heavy to very heavy rains started lashingMumbaiand adjoining areas on Tuesday night. These showers were accompanied by squally winds, intense thunderstorms and lightning strikes. In fact, intensity of rains has been more over suburbs, which at present are witnessing very heavy rains.
According to weathermen, the cyclonic circulation overMadhya Maharashtrahas now moved over Konkan & Goa region. In wake of this, massive thunder clouding developed overMumbai and adjoining areasaround 8 pm on Dussehra night. By 9:30 pm, most parts of the city including Kalyan, Thane, Badlapur and Navi Mumbai had started reporting rains.
Looking at the intense clouding, these rains and thundershowers are likely to continue for another 2-3 hours, subsiding thereafter. It may also trigger local flooding.

The cyclonic circulation is also likely to shift westwards over the Arabian Sea and thus, rains would take a break. Forecasters predict fair chances of rain with one or two intense spell over Mumbai on Wednesday as well.
These showers have paved way for extremely pleasant weather conditions over the city, bringing in relief from night humidity levels. It had been a hot and humid Tuesday, with Mumbai recording day maximum at 34 degree Celsius.
