Heavy rain to lash Gujarat; Rajasthan could receive moderate spells

July 12, 2013 3:49 PM |

The cyclonic system which has been bringing heavy to moderate rain over Andhra, Orissa and Vidharbha, is now expected to curve towards Gujarat, bringing heavy rains in the state, confirm reports at Skymet Weather. Surat and Ahemadabad could get heavy showers of up to 80mm and temperatures may fall drastically by 5 to 6 degrees Celsius. Winds could be strong between 40 to 50kmph as the system moves further inland.

“Current updates show that heavy showers have begun in Surat and the city may already have recorded up to 50mm of rain.” Says Mahesh Palawat, Head of the Met team at Skymet Weather.

As the system moves towards Gujarat, parts of south Rajasthan are also likely to get affected. Udaipur will have vacation weather yet again as moderate spells of up to 30mm could occur in the city. Maximum temperature in Udaipur may come down to 28 degree Celsius as compared to 31 degrees currently. Blue city Jodhpur as well as Kota could also receive good showers.

The cyclonic circulation is currently at south Madhya Pradesh and north Maharashtra. Rain will continue to be light to moderate with heavy in isolated pockets in these regions as the moisture content will inevitably accumulate in the low pressure area.

Hyderabad and many other cities of Andhra Pradesh, Vidharbha, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh faced heavy rains in the last 24hours due to the same factor. Here’s what the rain figures look like:

Hyderabad recorded 86mm of rain, the highest of the season and the maximum temperature fell from 31 degree Celsius on the 8th July to 24 degrees on the 11th of July. Gannavaram recorded 37mm, Kalingapatna- 28mm, Machlipatnam – 25mm, Nagpur-13mm, Guna-14mm, Jabalpur-22mmm and Bhopal- traces of rainfall.

We earlier informed that this system may then gradually move towards west U.P and the foothills of Himalayas, affecting Delhi and Haryana that lie in its path. Rain in the capital on Sunday could be due to the same.
