Heavy rains coming up for Kerala, deficiency to reduce

July 3, 2023 11:48 AM |

Right from the onset of Southwest monsoon, the state of Kerala receives very good rains, especially during the month of June. However, this time the situation has been different and the state of Kerala has not had a good starting Monsoon month in terms of rains. In fact, by the end of June, Kerala was deficient by 60 percent.

Generally, Kerala is supposed to have about 20 mm of rain daily but there has only been 4-5 mm daily, which is why such high deficiency has been observed. Shortly, we can expect some rain to pick up over Kerala.

In fact, rains are expected to be seen today itself, more along the coast. Rainfall activity will increase even further by tomorrow. Today, more along the coast, tomorrow more than today. Rains are expected to be heavy the day after tomorrow as well. Rains will reduce thereafter, being moderate in nature.

The reason for these rains is attributed to the off shore trough along the West Coast and a system in the Bay of Bengal which will further enhance rains. This will definitely reduce the Monsoon deficit over Kerala as heavy showers will be seen for three straight days.
