Published on Aug 19, 1:00 PM: The state of Himachal Pradesh as well as Uttarakhand have seen heavy rains in the past 24 hours resulting in loss of 31 lives with 22 people remaining missing. Heavy rains also triggered landslides, mudslides, flash floods which further led to uprooting of trees as well.

In the state of Himachal Pradesh, at least 670 roads which includes six bridges, have either been blocked or washed away.

Flash floods in Uttarakhand’s Mori have wreaked havoc with several hundred hectares of land damaged along with dozens of cattle likely dead. More than 300 people have been shifted to safer areas. Rains for 24 hours in these states have left at least 1500 people which includes several tourists, stranded.

Chanidgarh Manali highway is blocked and will take a few days to open while multiple points of Manali-Leh highway also remained closed. Manali Spiti road also remains blocked.

Schools in Shimla, Solan, Bilaspur, and Kullu remain closed today in view of heavy rains that have caused chaos across the state of Himachal Pradesh.

As per weathermen, heavy rains will continue thus, situation will remain grim for at least the next 24 hours or so.
