August 3, 2016 9:38 AM |

Summers in DelhiAfter a prolonged spell of Monsoon rains, hot and sultry weather is likely to make a comeback over Delhi-NCR. However, on and off patchy light showers will continue over the national capital.

According to Skymet Weather, Monsoon rains will now take a break for the next 3-4 days as a fresh low pressure are has developed over Bay of Bengal. Meanwhile, the cyclonic circulation over Uttar Pradesh has also shifted south and is now marked over Madhya Pradesh.

Both the systems have also pulled down the Monsoon trough which is running south of Delhi, via Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Thus, moist winds will now concentrate around these two systems will and weather over Delhi-NCR will now go dry. But the presence of Monsoon surge over the city will continue to give some light showers in between.

In wake of this, maximum temperatures that were settling below normal will again witness a rise by 2-3 degrees.

Another spell of rains approaching soon

We expect another rainy spell over Delhi to commence around August 6 or 7. As per the weathermen, the low pressure area will shift over central parts of country by the weekend. Also at the same time, a fresh Western Disturbance is also expected to affect the northern hills. Moreover, the axis of Monsoon trough will also shift towards north.

Interaction among all these systems will once again lead to fairly widespread Monsoon rains over northern plains including Delhi-NCR by the weekend. These rains are likely to continue for the next 3-4 days.

Till the last week of July, Delhi was observing deficit Monsoon rains but all thanks to the prolonged spell of heavy Monsoon rains for last few days that Delhi is now witnessing excess rainfall. As on August 2, Delhi is rain surplus by 13%.
