Intense summer heat has been prevalent over the central parts of the country for the past many days. The states like Maharashtra, mainly Vidarbha, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh have worn the major brunt of the soaring mercury levels that resulted in heatwave conditions to prevail in these areas.

The mercury levels across all these states have risen to sky kissing heights and are constantly above the 45-degree mark making the weather conditions extremely hot and uneasy. Apart from Central India, Telangana in the southern half of the country is also whirling under hot day or heatwave like conditions.

The pre-Monsoon season also peaks in almost the entire country during the months of May and June. While, the first half of May experiences intense summer heat, it is the second half of the month that bring in short-term relief in terms pre-Monsoon activities that triggered by this heat that drops the temperatures slightly.

However, as the relief is for just a day, the temperatures do not get accumulated and start mounting again the next day. Further, as the activity becomes more frequent, the temperatures become stagnant.

In fact, in the last 24 hours, many parts of Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh with isolated parts of Telangana have witnessed hottest days of the season in their respective states so far. This is depicted in the table below:

As per Skymet Weather, hot westerly winds are blowing over these regions from Sindh, Balochistan and Central Pakistan region.  Here, the temperatures are already nearing 50 degrees Celsius which is the main cause of the soaring mercury levels in parts of Central India. In addition to this, constant clear weather and bright sunny days are also assisting this intense rise.

For the next few days also, Skymet Weather, does not expect any relief from the ongoing heatwave conditions. Thus, the aforementioned states are expected to continue in parts of Maharashtra, and Rajasthan. Moreover, the ongoing hot day conditions over the other parts of the country are also expected to continue for the next four to five days.
