Hyderabad has received very good showers in the month of September. It has been raining continuous for the last many days in this city.

On September 21, Hyderabad recorded 67 mm of rainfall in just 24 hours. The next day, Hyderabad recorded 73.1 mm of rainfall and 27.8 mm on September 24. We can say that the intensity of rainfall is following a reducing trend. In a span of 24 hours, from 8.30 am on Saturday Hyderabad received just 17.2 mm of rainfall.

Heavy downpour wreaked havoc in the capital and other parts of Telangana over the last few days. So much so, that Army troops had been deployed in rain-affected areas of Hyderabad and the neighboring Ranga Reddy district.

The worst affected areas in Hyderabad include Begumpet, Nizampet and Hakimpet areas.

The ongoing spell of rainfall in Hyderabad could be attributed to the low pressure area over Vidarbha and adjoining North Telangana region. This system has been lingering on over the region for quite some time now.

So far, Hyderabad has received 425.2 mm of rainfall against its monthly mean of 132.9 mm of rainfall. Hyderabad has already surpassed the decade’s highest rainfall of 266.6 mm which occurred in September, 2007. However, the all-time monthly total rainfall stands at a whopping 499.4 mm which occurred in the year 1908. Hyderabad might not be able to surpass this figure but it has already received highest rainfall in last 100 years.

At present, the weather system is lying just north of Telangana and is likely to weaken gradually. Thereafter, rainfall activities will reduce over most parts of Telangana as well as Hyderabad.

Mainly light rainfall is likely over Hyderabad during next for 24 hours. Occasional light rains will be observed thereafter.
