Independence Day: Weather Conditions Over The country

August 14, 2023 4:32 PM |

The stage is set for the joyous festivities to commemorate the 77th Independence Day of free India. Nation eagerly looks forward to the Prime Minister's address from the iconic Red Fort, Delhi.   Federal states too are enthusiastically prepared to celebrate this proud occasion.  Being a monsoon period, everyone keeps their fingers crossed for a fair and smooth program without the weather playing any spoiled sport.  To set things at ease, there is not going to be any disruptive weather activity during the celebration hours, except over northeastern parts.

The national capital will remain under the shadow of cloud cover in the morning.  The chance of a sprinkle can not be ruled out, but not to the tune of disrupting festivities, including flag hoisting from the Red Fort. Shallow cloud cover and mild breeze may provide some relief from the sharp sun and highly sultry conditions. Mild showers are likely through the day but the celebration window of 7 am to 10 am may not get impacted adversely.

Mumbai has been observing weak monsoon conditions for the last many days.  Only single-digit rains are being recorded in 24hr for the last many days. A similar trend is expected for Independence Day.  The financial city has the chance of fleeting light rain in the morning hours and improving later in the day.

The capital city of Jammu and Kashmir invariably remains under the threat of rains triggered by the western disturbance and monsoon trough. The monsoon trough is lying close to the foothills, north of its normal position. However, there is no significant weather system to trigger any rainy spell during the hours of celebrations. Few clouds with temperatures largely in the comfort range are likely in the morning and forenoon hours, to facilitate festive activities.

Guwahati will remain under the threat of rain and showers in the morning hours.  Break monsoon conditions prevailing as of now remain favourable for rain and thundershower activity during late evening and night. The wet spell gets extended to the wee hours and finds clearance only after 10 am.

Monsoon activity is more prevalent over the eastern and northeastern parts for the last many days. Now, cyclonic circulation is evolving over Bangladesh and the north Bay of Bengal. This situation remains favourable for light rainfall over the capital city of Kolkata in the morning hours. Heavy rainfall is not likely but a cloudy sky and light breeze may provide little comfort from the warm and humid conditions.

No inclement weather conditions are expected to spoil the celebration mood over Jaipur, Lucknow, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
