Intensity of Monsoon rains to increase in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh July 25 onward

Due to the development of convective clouds, isolated thundery activities/thundershowers have been going over Northwest India since the last two to three days. And our meteorologists predict, these activities to continue today and tomorrow as well. A marginal increase in the rainfall activities of Punjab and Haryana is expected today, due to the continuous flow of moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal, however, these showers would remain localised and patchy only.

By July 25, a gradual increase is likely and on July 26 and 27, we expect fairly widespread rain and thundershower activities to lash many districts of Punjab and Haryana. Chances of one or two heavy to very heavy spells cannot be ruled out. The intensity would be comparatively more along the foothills of Punjab.

These rains would be a result of the shifting of Monsoon Trough in the north direction. This Trough is currently passing through Rajasthan, South Uttar Pradesh and South of Punjab and Haryana. As this Trough gradually shifts northwards, the intensity of Monsoon rains would increase over entire Northwest India including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh from July 25.

These Monsoon showers would be scattered on July 25, while intense in nature on July 26 and 27. Thereafter, rains will taper over the region and only isolated activities would continue.

In the wake of these activities, the temperatures would ease out and the soil moisture for crops would also be restored.
