Jharkhand, Bengal and Chhattisgarh observing hot weather conditions

February 5, 2015 5:47 PM |

Winter sunThe people of East India, particularly those living in the states of Jharkhand, Bengal and Chhattisgarh are experiencing some really hot weather conditions. Though, there is still a month to go before winter gets over, the day temperatures in the region are already settling in the early 30s.

West Bengal at the moment is the warmest amongst the three states. For instance Bankura recorded 33.4°C as the day temperature on Wednesday, which is 6 degrees above the normal average and almost equal to the ten year record of 33.5°C observed on February 8, 2014. The state capital Kolkata is not far behind with the maximum temperature settling at 31.5°C, which is also 4 degrees above the monthly average. Shantineketan and Asansol are the other two places in the state where the day temperature settled at 31.2°C and 31°C, respectively.

The conditions are almost similar in Jharkhand with Jamshedpur recording 32°C as the maximum on Wednesday. State capital Ranchi saw the day temperature settle 6 degrees above normal at 29°C. Daltonganj and Bokaro saw the maximum settle at 30.8°C and 28.5°C as the maximums, respectively.

In Chhattisgarh too the same scenario has been prevailing. Raipur recorded 33.4°C as the maximum on Wednesday, which is 4 degrees above the normal average for the month. While Bilaspur and Durg saw the day temperature settle at 32.4°C and 32.2°C respectively.

The reason behind the hot condition in the region is the warm southeasterly winds that are not allowing the temperatures to drop. In the last few days there have been a series of weather systems that are keeping the cold dry northwesterlies away from the region and assisting warm winds in the region. There isn’t any respite expected from the warm condition for at least another 2-3 days. .
