Kolkata rains coming up, good prolonged showers likely ahead

The city of Joy as they call Kolkata is the capital city of West Bengal, home to the iconic Victoria Memorial. As far as the weather is concerned, the city of Kolkata has exceeded its monthly rains for September.

In fact, the Alipore observatory has recorded 425.2 mm of rains against the monthly average of 325 mm, which is 100 mm more than usual. Moreover, Kolkata is expected to see more rainfall activity in the next few days. The rainy spell will be a prolonged one, extending over the week.

A Low Pressure is likely to come up in the Bay of Bengal anytime after 48 hours. But conditions are becoming favourable for rains in Kolkata. A Circulation is already coming in the North and Head Bay of Bengal which will cause cloudy skies and rains will be seen starting today itself.

As the system organizes, comes closer and crosses coast, we can expect hevay rains in Kolkata. Thus, between Oct 3 and 5, we can see some rainfall activities over the city of joy. The proximity of the Bay of Bengal, the moisture being pumped for the region will result in a very long spell for Kolkata.

Monsoon bids adieu the capital city of West Bengal much later. The normal date for Monsoon withdrawal from Kolkata is on October 10. Thus, rains will be seen over the city until then at least.
