Light Monsoon Rains in Kolkata

Southwest Monsoon 2019 has not been kind enough to the city of Kolkata. The month of July has been a very disappointing one so far. The first day of July saw light rains, with these rains becoming moderate on the second as well as the third day.

Thereafter, there only has been traces of rains with very light showers on some occasions. Moreover, in the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, the Alipore observatory in Kolkata has seen 1 mm of rainfall.

So far, in the first nine days of July, Kolkata has recorded just 39 mm of rains against its monthly average of a whopping 396 mm.

Moreover, in the coming days, only light showers are expected to be seen due to the northward movement of the Monsoon trough towards the foothills of the Himalayas, which will see good rainfall activity.

These next two to three days will be seeing light rainfall activity. However, after the Monsoon trough moves southward, rainfall activity is expected to increase by July 16, and good showers will be seen. However, these rains are expected to reduce once again after two days, i.e. July 18.
