Light Rain - Showers To Continue Over Delhi For One Week, Mercury To Stay Below Normal
May 6, 2025, 1:45 PM | Skymet Weather TeamPatchy rains lashed Delhi/NCR yesterday. Cloudy sky and moderate winds checked the day temperature. Both day and night temperatures dropped below normal by a big margin. With easterly winds, the humidity levels remained quite high. Similar conditions are likely for the next few days.
Base station Safdarjung recorded a day temperature of 32.3°C, about 7°C below normal, but without any rains on record. Airport Palam recorded rainfall of 3mm, and the day temperature plunged to 31.3°C, about 9°C below the average. This was the second lowest day temperature since last two months. The lowest being 28.4°C registered on 02nd May 2025. The night temperatures also remained below normal by 2°-4°C across the region.
The cyclonic circulation persists over Northeast Rajasthan and the adjoining region. An east–west trough, the main trigger for the weather activity, remains in close proximity to Delhi. Another cyclonic circulation over Southwest Rajasthan in the lower levels feeds moisture over the region. Under the combined influence of these features, pre-monsoon activity will continue over Delhi and adjoining parts during the week.
The weather activity will be absolutely light in nature today. Tomorrow, it may skip in toto, the complete Delhi/NCR. The activity will return back on 08th and 09th May, but restricted to patchy and brief duration spells. Later, the spread may increase between 10th and 12th May, but the intensity will remain light and at best moderate. Unlike the other day, no major interruption is envisaged during the entire duration.
Mercury levels will remain suppressed, and the heat index subdued for the week. The weather activity of a similar nature may even spill over till mid-week next. In view of extended weather activity, the typical heat of May will remain at bay. The temperature will stay in low 30’s and occasionally rise to about 35°C. In the absence of any widespread rains and insignificant weather activity in the night, the minimum temperature will have a rising trend and is likely to remain between 24°-26°C.
