Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha to see more unseasonal rain and thundershowers

March 20, 2020 10:01 AM |

Central India rains

During the last 24 hours, the eastern parts of Madhya Pradesh and South Chhattisgarh have been experiencing intense showers. While scattered rain and thundershowers continued in the remaining parts of Chhattisgarh.

For instance, Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh recorded 25 mm of rain. While in Chhattisgarh, Jagdalpur observed 26 mm of rain. Meanwhile, light to moderate rain and thundershowers were observed in Damoh, Umaria, Bilaspur, Mana, and Raipur during the same episode of this rainy spell. Isolated rains were witnessed in the Vidarbha region in Maharashtra.

The reason for these rains can be attributed to the strengthening of an anti cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal that is feeding moisture towards the central and eastern parts of the country so far. Also, a cyclonic circulation in the lower levels is persisting over the Vidarbha region and its adjoining areas. Yet, another cyclonic circulation in the lower levels is persisting over Southwest Madhya Pradesh.

Due to the combined effect of all the above-mentioned weather systems, we expect rain and thundershowers to continue today in many parts of East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. While isolated pockets of the Vidarbha region may also observe similar weather activities today.

These weather activities are expected to continue until tomorrow. Thereafter, the rainfall activities will subside from the Vidarbha region. While East Madhya Pradesh will only continue to receive isolated rains. Meanwhile, the state of Chhattisgarh will continue with light to moderate rain and thundershowers.

On March 22, only the southern districts of Chhattisgarh would experience rain and thundershower activities.

These unseasonal rains that started at the beginning of winters are still continuing in the month of March. And, further, we still expect on and off rain and thundershowers to continue in many parts of Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, and East Madhya Pradesh in the coming days also. However, for now, rains are expected to continue for the next 24 to 48 hours.
