Many parts of Gujarat receive rain after a prolonged dry spell

September 9, 2023 2:12 PM |

The months of June and July were very good for Gujarat in terms of rainfall. August went almost dry for Gujarat. In fact, the entire country witnessed one of the driest Augusts in history. During the last 24 hours, many parts of Gujarat recorded moderate to heavy rain. Deesa, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Bulsar, Bhavnagar and adjoining areas recorded scattered to fairly widespread rain.

Farmers rejoiced due to this rain activity. However, many districts witnessed strong winds along with rain activities which damaged the standing crops. A low-pressure area that developed over the West Central Bay of Bengal has travelled inland over Madhya Pradesh.

Moreover, the axis of the monsoon trough also travelled towards the south. Moisture flow enhanced from the Arabian Sea. All these weather parameters are responsible for rain activities over Gujarat. We expect scattered rain to continue over eastern parts of Gujarat for another 24 hours.

There may be another scattered spell of rain over east Gujarat from September 14 and may continue for 4 to 5 days. Although many districts of Gujarat are facing a drought-like situation these upcoming rains may give some lease of life to the crops.
