Cold wave conditions were prevailing over many parts of Rajasthan and parts of Gujarat until January 18th. With approach of Western disturbance and change in wind direction, temperatures started increasing over these States leading to abatement of cold wave. In fact, many districts witnessed double digit minimums in Rajasthan.
Minimums have dropped once again over these states during last 24 hours. We expect further fall during next 2 to 3 days and minimums of some of the districts of Gujarat may also reach single digit.
Two successive Western disturbances are expected to approach Western Himalayas between January 21 and 23rd. But there impact will be felt mainly over Western Himalayas, parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Winds over Western districts of Rajasthan and Saurashtra and Kutch will be humid and continue from north. These humid winds will ensure that temperatures will not rise over these states. In fact, there are chances of further drop in a minimum. But the drop will not be steep enough as to lead to cold wave conditions. Therefore, chance of cold wave is ruled out.
However, temperatures in eastern districts of Rajasthan may not witness a significant drop. Therefore we can say there will be contrasting temperatures over Rajasthan and parts of Gujarat in the coming days.
