Good rain and thundershower activities are going on along the West Coast of India especially in parts of Coastal Karnataka and Kerala. And since the last 48 hours, the intensity of these weather activities has increased in Karnataka and Kerala.
In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Thursday, Karwar in Karnataka recorded very heavy rain to the tune of 89 mm, followed by Shirali 75 mm, Mangaluru 72 mm, Honnavar 55 mm, Kozhikode 48 mm, Thrissur 36 mm, Kannur 32 mm, Kochi 23 mm, Kottayam 20 mm, Karipur 17 mm, Punalur 8 mm, Trivandrum 7 mm and Palakkad 5 mm.
Moreover, in the wake of these rains, Karnataka’s rain deficiency has come under the normal category. As of June 13, Karnataka is rain deficient by 15 percent and Kerala by 29 percent.
Now rainfall activities are expected to continue with moderate to heavy intensity in parts of Coastal Karnataka. However, in the next 24 hours, rain may decrease slightly in parts of Kerala. But again, a fresh Monsoon surge will increase rainfall activity in Kerala.
Although the interior parts of Tamil Nadu will not receive enough rains, scattered light rains with few moderate spells may continue in rest parts of the south peninsula. In fact, seeing the intensity of rains now we expect Southwest Monsoon will cover entire Kerala and parts of Coastal Karnataka anytime soon.
The reason for all the above weather conditions will be attributed to an active offshore trough extending from Karnataka coast to Kerala. Moreover, westward-moving Cyclone Vayu and strong winds from the southwest direction are enhancing these rainfall activities.
