Monsoon rains expected to strengthen over foothills of Himalayas

June 30, 2016 11:22 AM |

foothills600In the last few days, foothills of Himalayas have observed fairly widespread rains. These rains have covered regions from Uttarakhand to Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. Nepal hills have also observed good rain activities during last 24 hours.

Rain intensity is expected to increase over foothills of Himalayas particularly including foothills of East Uttar Pradesh and adjoining West Bihar. These regions are more likely to experience heavy to extremely heavy rains.  Thereafter, other areas of foothills of Uttar Pradesh will also start receiving fairly widespread rain-thundershowers.

Talking about the foothills of Uttarakhand, Mussoorie observed the most 122 mm of rainfall while Dehradun recorded 14.7 mm rains. However, Nainital, Pantnagar and Pithoragarh witnessed light showers.

As per Skymet Weather, Uttarakhand is likely to witness few heavy to very heavy rainy spells on July 2. Though other parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar will also start receiving good rainfall from the night of July 1 but intensity will be more over the foothills or tarai region of the above-mentioned states.

During these 2 to 3 days, heavy to very heavy rains are likely to commence over neighboring country Nepal. But due to these incessant rains, chances of flooding over Lakhimpur, Bahraich and other districts of North Uttar Pradesh and Bihar cannot be ruled out. These rainy spells are likely to last for another 4 to 5 days.
