Monsoon rains to continue over Northeast India, flooding rains unlikely

July 17, 2023 5:54 PM |

North-east India has been seeing decent rainfall activities for the past few days. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 AM on Sunday, Pasighat recorded 68 mm of rains, North Lakhimpur 23 mm, Kohima 18 mm, Kailashahar 18 mm, Lengpui 17 mm, and Haflong 11 mm.

Even during the next coming days, we expect such rain for activities to continue however, flooding rains are not likely for the next few days, until the weekend.

The reason for no flooding rains can be attributed to the presence of a low pressure area in the central parts of the country. Along with this, another system will come up around the 18th. when such systems form, rainfall activity reduces over north-east India because winds are easterlies, and high impact intensity is not expected during this time.

However, we can expect some light to moderate rains with isolated heavy spells to continue across Northeast India.

These normal Monsoon rains continue to fill up the catchment areas which furthermore also keep depositing into Brahmaputra and its tributaries. Thus, water keeps flowing in these rivers. Meteorologically, we do not expect flooding rains to occur that can cause any chaos as such.
