Monsoon rains to drench Madhya Pradesh again

September 14, 2016 8:02 AM |

Rain in chhattisgarhMonsoon rains are all set to make a comeback over Madhya Pradesh after a gap of many days. According to Skymet Weather, the western end of the Monsoon trough has been running along the foothills of Himalayas for the last many days. Meanwhile, the eastern end of the trough has been oscillating over East Uttar Pradesh or Bihar or sometimes over Jharkhand.

Now a low pressure has developed over Andhra Pradesh, which has pulled the axis of monsoon trough southwards. At present, the trough is passing via Satna in Northeast Madhya Pradesh.

In wake of this, scattered rain has already been observed over parts of East and Southeast Madhya Pradesh. Further, we can expect mainly moderate showers with isolated heavy rains to lash the region during the next 24 hours.

Thereafter, as the system moves westwards, the rain belt will cover many parts of West Madhya Pradesh as well. However, intensity of rain over West Madhya Pradesh will be less than eastern region.

The low pressure area will subsequently move away in further west direction but with the close proximity of Monsoon trough, many parts of Madhya Pradesh will continue to receive good rainfall.

At present, entire Madhya Pradesh is witnessing excess rainfall. As on September 13, the cumulative rainfall surplus for West Madhya Pradesh stands at 21%, while East Madhya Pradesh is excess by 17%.

With these rains in offing, we expect the rainfall surplus to increase further.
