Monsoon continues to be vigorous over Northeast India, giving heavy to very heavy rains over the region during the last 24 hours as well. Few places have also recorded extremely heavy rainfall.
According to Skymet Weather, eastern arm of the axis of Monsoon trough continue to extend through the foothills of Himalayas up to Northeast India across Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. The trough is primarily responsible for the intense Monsoon activity over the region.
In addition to this, a cyclonic circulation is also marked over Bihar and adjoining Sub-Himalayan West Bengal.
This combined effect of these systems, will continue to give heavy to very heavy rains over West Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. Rest of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh will witness moderate to heavy showers.
Meanwhile, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura will record light to moderate rains only.
48 hours thereafter, the eastern end of trough will move towards south. Moreover, the cyclonic circulation will also weaken. This will lead significant decrease in rainfall over the entire region.
