Monsoon to become active over North India by July 21

Most of the North Indian states have received normal rainfall between June 1 and July 15. Delhi and Ladakh are rain deficient by 23 and 25%. Uttar Pradesh is most rain deficient by 59%. Although, Uttarakhand, Haryana and Punjab are in normal range category, but Haryana is deficient by 2%, Punjab by 6% and Uttarakhand is deficient by 12%.

Axis of monsoon trough was over central part of the country since the beginning of July leading to heavy to very heavy downpour over Central India. However, northern plains are almost dry with occasional showers. Humidity and temperatures have increased the discomfort level over northern states. Most of us are wondering whether monsoon has really reached North India or not. Now the Western and of axis of Monsoon trough is moving in another direction eastern end will also follow the suit.

Rain may intensify over west Uttar Pradesh by July 19 and 20. Punjab, Haryana as well as parts of Delhi NCR may receive good rain from July 21st or 22nd. On and off good rain activities are expected to continue over North India for at least next 4 to 5 days. These upcoming rains will certainly reduce the temperatures and subsequently reduce the heat stress.
