Rain Chennai post

The Gateway to South India, Chennai had been reeling under dry and warm weather conditions since past few days. However, traces or light rain have been making appearances over the region on a few occasions.

The last 24 hours were also of not much difference over the region and in a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Meenambakkam Observatory in Chennai observed a mere 0.5 mm of rains, while Nungambakkam Observatory recorded traces.

Other areas of Tamil Nadu that recorded some rains of light intensity include Vellore 19 mm, Tiruchirapalli 8 mm, Kodaikanal 6 mm, Dharmapuri 5 mm, Coonoor 4 mm, Kanyakumari 4 mm, Madurai 3 mm and Tondi 2 mm.

However, now, we expect weather conditions to take a turn, paving for good rains and thundershowers. Weathermen expect moderate rains over Chennai for the next 24 to 48 hours.

The reason behind these rains would be the cyclonic circulation marked over North Interior Tamil Nadu. This system will induce moist winds over the region from Bay of Bengal.

While morning and nights will remain comfortable, days will be little warm and humid with maximum temperatures settling around 31-32 degrees and minimum temperatures near 24-25 degrees.

Rains will again take a backseat thereafter. As of today, the state of Tamil Nadu is rain surplus by 33 percent and Chennai by 5 percent. If we look at the city rain figures, Chennai has received 111.6 mm of rainfall as against its monthly mean of 147.7 mm.
