The state of Jharkhand has been observing good rain and thundershowers since the commencement of Southwest Monsoon. However, the intensity remained light and at times moderate.

Since past three to four days, rains have picked up pace over the region and during the last 24 hours, heavy to extremely heavy rains have lashed numerous areas of the state.

Some places in Jharkhand such as Jamshedpur and Ranchi have been witnessing extremely heavy rains since last a few days. In span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, Jamshedpur recorded a whopping 109 mm of rainfall, followed by Ranchi that witnessed 99 mm.

The reason for this hefty amount of rainfall can be attributed to a well-marked low pressure area that is seen over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand.

As per Skymet Weather, this weather system is likely to weaken and gradually move toward Jharkhand and North Chhattisgarh.

In wake of this, light to moderate rain will continue over many places of Bokaro, Chatra, Deoghar, Dhanbad, Dumka, Garhwa, Giridih, Godda, Gumla, Hazaribag, Jamtara, Khunti, Koderma, Latehar, Lohardaga, Pakur, Palamu, Pashchim Singhbhum, Purba Singhbhum, Ramgarh, Ranchi and Saraikela Kharsawan will continue to record good rains during the next 12 hours. Subsequently, the intensity of rains will lessen.

In spite of these extremely heavy rains going on, the state is still deficient by 5% as on July 24. Yet we can expect Jharkhand to become rain surplus in the next couple of days.
