Mumbai rains to increase in the second half of the week, intense showers expected

July 3, 2023 11:36 AM |

The city of Mumbai saw a delayed Monsoon onset but the month of June despite that, performed pretty well. Mumbai was able to surpass its monthly mean with the last week observing intense rains.

The month of July happens to be the rainiest month of the year with the average rains being at 919.9 mm. Moreover, during July, the city sees rains daily with varied intensity and there is hardly a day when Mumbai does not see rainfall.

For the next two days, Mumbai is expected to see moderate showers with ample amount of breaks. Most of the activity will remain confined to late evening/night as well as early morning. Thereafter, rains will be seen picking up and heavy showers may be seen.

On July 6 and 7, we can expect heavy to very heavy rains over Mumbai with July 8 seeing a slight reduction but rains continue to be heavy. Starting July 9, we can once again see some relief with showers being light to moderate.

These rains will be attributed to two features. One of them is the off shore trough starting from Maharashtra up to Kerala, which will give intense rains over Konkan.

Another system is developing in the Bay of Bengal, at the moment a Cyclonic Circulation over South and Southwest and adjoining West Central Bay, which will gradually move north along the coast over Northwest Bay in the next 24 to 36 hours, and later move inland, which will intensify the rains over Konkan.
