Key Takeaways:

  • Mumbai has received no rainfall in April so far.
  • City will remain dry, hot, and humid this week.
  • Strong sea breeze is preventing a sharp rise in temperatures.
  • No heat wave is expected during the remaining days of April.

Unlike other subdivisions of Maharashtra, Konkan region received very little weather activity in April. Mumbai has not received any rainfall during the month. As such, rainfall occurrences are far and few for the city in the month of April. Pre-monsoon activity is likely to pick up over many parts of the country during this week. However, the capital city will remain dry, hot, and humid.

The city had witnessed heat wave conditions in the month of March 2026. Even, the Santacruz observatory had breached the 40°C mark on 10th March 2026. However, in the month of April, the city has recorded the highest maximum of 36°C on 14th April 2026. The temperature did exceed 35°C on three consecutive days between 23rd and 25th April 2026. The airport observatory was back to the normal temperature of 33.8°C yesterday. Similar records are likely for the next few days this week.

A strong anticyclonic circulation is marked over the deep Arabian Sea, off Konkan Coast, in the lower levels. This feature is pushing strong northwesterly winds along the coastline. This also is facilitating the early onset of sea breeze over the capital city. Sea breeze is in excess of 30 km/h during the forenoon, afternoon, and evening hours. This is likely to continue for the next 3-4 days. This pattern is suppressing any sharp rise in temperature. No heat wave is expected during the remaining days of April.

As such, the city has not observed any heat wave in April during the last 10 years. Last year, the highest maximum temperature was 36°C on 04th April 2025. Prior to that, the city observed maximum temperatures of under 35°C in April 2022, 2023, and 2024. It means that heat wave is not common for the city in April. However, humidity levels will remain very high and therefore, extreme sultry conditions are expected during the afternoon hours.
