Northeast Monsoon sees a weaker start, significant rains not likely

October 22, 2023 3:03 PM |

The northeast monsoon has commenced with a delay of a few days. North Easterly and easterly winds have strengthened over the Bay of Bengal. The depression over West Central Bay of Bengal will continue to move in the Northwest direction initially and then re-curve in North Northeast direction. This particular weather system over the Bay of Bengal may obstruct the Northeasterly flow of winds.

The Northeast monsoon has commenced but we do not expect any significant weather activity over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu for at least the next 2 to 3 days. There may be moderate rains with isolated heavy spells over Southern parts of Tamil Nadu and South Kerala but typical monsoon rains will remain absent. We can say that the Northeast monsoon has started but on a weaker note.

Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu usually receive a major amount of rainfall during the Northeast monsoon season between October and December.
