Odisha Floods: Hundreds affected in Rayagada and Kalahandi

The state of Odisha has been witnessing heavy to very heavy rains during the last 24 hours. In fact, these heavy rains have triggered flash floods in parts of Rayagada as well as Kalahandi districts.

Not only this, due to torrential rains over the region the government asked the help of the Indian Air Force as well as the Indian Army so as to rescue people who were stranded. They even asked the centre to provide helicopters for speeding up the relief and rescue operations.

Swollen rivers have also become a cause of concern in the state. Both the Nagavali and the Kalyani rivers have risen due to which many areas in Kalahandi and Rayagada were inundated.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Gopalpur recorded a whopping 96 mm of rain,Puri63 mm, Chandbali 63 mm,Bhubaneswar31 mm, and Paradip 15 mm.

These showers have been attributed to the presence of a low pressure area which is currently over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Coastal Odisha.

Railway Bridge also collapsed in the Rayagada district due to heavy rains over the region. As per media reports, schools remain closed for at least 3 days in the areas that have been affected. Not only this food packets have also been dropped over these areas.

A landslide in T Rampur block resulted in 3 injured people. Also, one person has been killed in the landslide.

300 people who were stranded in flood waters in Rayagada and Kalahandi district have been rescued as mentioned by the SRC Odisha.

As per weatherman at skymet, these rains are expected to continue during the next 24 hours also which is why the situation is expected to remain slightly grim.
