Odisha Rains To Continue, Break Likely Around Republic Day

January 23, 2024 11:00 AM |

Eastern parts of the country have been witnessing winter rains for the last 4-5 days.  Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and Chhattisgarh have received rain and thundershowers, unseasonal ones at a few places.  These are the only parts observing rains, while the rest of the states continue with prolonged dry weather conditions.

Interaction between the two airmass having opposing characteristics has resulted in this wet spell. An Anticyclone over the Bay of Bengal is throwing moist winds deep inland. Dry northwesterly winds from the north and central parts, interacting with this airmass have resulted convergence zone triggering this unseasonal weather activity.

The anticyclone is likely to resume its normal position over the central parts after 3 days. Moist winds will get arrested and remain confined over the sea only. Scattered rain and thundershowers are likely to continue over Odisha on 23 and 24 Jan. The rain belt will shrink on 25 Jan. Spread and intensity will reduce accordingly. Broad clearance is expected from 26 Jan, the Republic Day and continue for the remaining days of the month.
