Pleasant weather to prevail over Kolkata

November 21, 2018 5:32 PM |

KOLKATA POST

Southwest Monsoon season is the main rainy season for Kolkata. In fact, during this season the city records almost 75% of its annual rainfall activity.

Since the beginning of October, sharp dip in terms of rainfall activity is seen over Kolkata, as October and November are the least rainy months for the city. Moreover, the normal rains Kolkata for November are 32 mm.

However, since the last 20 days, the Dum Dum Observatory of Kolkata is witnessing dry weather and the Alipore Observatory has recorded only 6 mm of rain.

Now in the coming days and months, we expect pleasant weather conditions with wintry touch to prevail over the city of joy. The night temperatures will be seen dropping below 20 degrees and day temperatures settling near 30 degrees.

During the month of November, Kolkata sees a large variation of winds in terms of both direction and speed. More often, dry northwesterly winds blow over the city and at times moist easterly winds.

Similar to the other metropolitan polluted cities, even Kolkata experiences air quality, hovering from 'poor' to 'very poor' category. This combined effect of less rains and dry light winds also leads to hazardous pollution levels sometimes.

Looking at all the above factors we can say that no significant weather activity is likely over Kolkata for at least next one week. Only pleasant weather conditions will prevail. Night temperatures may drop even more, and day temperatures will remain near normal.
