As per weathermen, the trough over the Interior parts of Tamil Nadu has become insignificant. Another trough now lies over Southeast Arabian Sea which is extending up to North Coastal Karnataka.

It is expected that the weather activity will reduce in intensity over Kerala. However, scattered light rain and thundershower are likely over the northern parts. Meanwhile, isolated activity is expected over the southern parts of Kerala and adjoining West Tamil Nadu during the next 24 hours.

Moreover, a rise in temperature is also expected over many parts of Tamil Nadu and at a few parts of Kerala. The weather during the day would be warm and humid in both the states.

Updated on March 23, 4:00 pm (IST):  After a gap few days, pre Monsoon rains have once again returned to Tamil Nadu. The light to moderate showers remained confined to the interior parts only. However, the coastal stations such as Chennai, Karaikal and Puducherry remained dry, warm and humid.

Meanwhile, Kerala continued to record pre Monsoon rains. In the last 24 from 8.30 am on Thursday, Udhagamandalam recorded light rain to the tune of 8 mm, followed by Kochi 7 mm and Palakkad 3 mm. In the similar time frame, Salem, Coonoor, and Coimbatore also recorded light showers.

As per Skymet Weather, these pre-Monsoon rains over both the states can be attributed the trough which is extending from West Bengal to Interior Tamil Nadu across Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and South Interior Karnataka.

As per weathermen, this north-south trough is a semi-permanent feature during the pre-Monsoon season that begins in March.

Further, light rain would continue over Tamil Nadu for another 24 hours. Meanwhile, Kerala is expected to record showers for the next 24 to 48 hours. Thereafter, the weather will become dry again.

In wake of these rains, a marginal drop was witnessed in minimum temperatures over Kerala but the temperature over Tamil Nadu remained unchanged. We do not expect any further change in the temperature profile. The day temperatures in Tamil Nadu would settle in higher 30s. Meanwhile, in Kerala, they would range in mid-30s.
