Pre Monsoon Rain / Thundershowers to continue Over Central Parts

April 12, 2024 4:42 PM |

Central parts of the country are having prolonged spell of rain and thundershowers for the last about one week. The weather activity started on a mild note on 06thApril. The intensity and spread kept increasing, nearly incessantly. Vidarbha and Madhya Pradesh had a bigger share.  Moderate showers were recorded over Chhattisgarh and Odisha, as well.  The peripheral region of North Karnataka, Marathwada and Telangana also received light showers.

A cyclonic circulation is marked over Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra, with a trough extending southward and eastward.  Also, the anticyclone over Bay of Bengal is feeding this feature with moist winds.  Rain and thundershowers activity is likely to continue for the next 3 days. States of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha are more susceptible for inclement weather activity.  Gusty winds, lightening strikes and isolated hailstorm is quite likely over these areas.

The heat wave conditions, which had come up earlier in some pockets, more so for Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Madhya Maharashtra, have eased out.  East Madhya Pradesh, South Chhattisgarh, and the interiors of Odisha have recorded under 30°C temperature.  Parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada, which earlier soared to 43-44°C have plunged to the low 30’s.  Most other places also are confined to mercury levels of 35°C or less.  These are rather unusual, as they are persisting for the last many days. These temperatures are likely to continue till Monday, 15th April, and rise gradually, thereafter.
