Prolonged Dry Spell For Delhi: Dry Weather To Continue; Mercury Drop Likely
Delhi has observed a prolonged dry spell, with the last rains witnessed on 7th October 2025. Generally, weather activity remains minimal this month, and fair weather conditions prevail as a standard for the national capital. The first week of the month was rather rainy, recording 90 mm of rainfall, far higher than the monthly normal of 14.1 mm. During this month, day temperatures mostly remained below normal and exceeded 35°C only once, on 2nd October 2025. Records show that in the last 15 years, day temperatures have crossed 36°C in 10 years. Last year, the highest temperature was 37.2°C, registered on 2nd October 2024. The lowest minimum temperature so far this season was 15.8°C, recorded on 26th October 2025. Quite often, the minimum temperature dips below 15°C, as observed between 2020 and 2023. Last year, the lowest minimum was 17.4°C, which was the highest in nearly two decades. The minimum temperature recorded this morning was 20.1°C, and it is likely to drop to around 16–17°C next week.
Currently, Delhi’s weather is being influenced by two major systems. The severe cyclonic storm Montha has now weakened into a low-pressure area over the eastern states. This system has largely controlled the wind pattern over and around Delhi for the last week. Predominant easterly winds have prevented night temperatures from dropping significantly. Another weather system over the Arabian Sea, still lingering as a depression over the east-central parts, has been responsible for cloud cover. The outflow of clouds from this depression caused a cloudy sky for the last 3–4 days. This system is likely to drift away from the coastline and weaken further. The mid-level cloud sheet will persist for another 24 hours before thinning out tomorrow. Thereafter, a mostly clear sky—shadowed by a layer of pollution—will remain the hallmark for nearly a week or longer.
In November, minimum temperatures start around 15°C and drop to 10°C by the end of the month. Day temperatures also fall sharply from 30°C to 25°C toward the end. Rainfall is rare, with the average dropping to just 4 mm. November happens to be the least rainy month for the national capital.
