Rain and snow to continue over Gulmarg, Srinagar, Manali

The hills of the Western Himalayas have been witnessing widespread rain and snowfall activity for the past many days. The intensity of rain was so much that the Jammu-Srinagar highway got blocked but traffic resumed thereafter. In fact, Himachal Pradesh and some parts of Uttarakhand also recorded good amount of rain and snow.

The hill stations such as Manali, Gulmarg and Srinagar are covered with thick layers of snow.

These weather activities can be attributed to the Western Disturbance which is prevailing over Jammu and Kashmir and its adjoining areas. This weather system has also induced a cyclonic circulation which is affecting the weather over the northwestern plains.

As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, widespread rain and snowfall are likely to continue over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. In fact, the higher reaches of Uttarakhand will also observe some weather activity. There is no relief from the weather activity for 24 hours.

Moreover, hailstorm activity may also occur in the foothills and plains of the Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

Jammu and Srinagar highway should be avoided as there are high chances of landslides and mudslides. In fact, after the snowfall activity, the chances of avalanches will also increase. Hence, it is advisable for the skiers and tourists to cautious.

The weather during the night will be cold whereas the weather during the day will be cool and pleasant over the Western Himalayas.
