January 8, 2023 2:32 PM |

Light rain and isolated light snowfall occurred over upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-baltistan and Muzaffarabad. Western Disturbance is now over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir region. It may give light to moderate rain and snow with few heavy spells over Western Himalayas until January 10. However, rain and snow activities over Uttarakhand may be isolated.

Another Western Disturbance is expected to approach Western Himalayas on January 10. The second Western Disturbance will give widespread snowfall from Gilgit Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh along with Uttarakhand. Uttarakhand will receive first moderate to heavy snowfall during this period.

Intensity of Western Disturbances was very and less during November and December. Now successive Western Disturbances may approach Western Himalayas in the month of January dumping heavy snowfall. There may be a gap of 2 to 3 days between January 14 and 17. Icy cold winds from North will sweep across northwest and Central India leading to significant drop in temperatures and commencement of cold wave once again.

There are chances of rain and snow over Western Himalayas from January 18. However, we must wait and see what will be the intensity of rain and snow during that time.
